Good Morning Class 2,
I hope you are having an enjoyable week so far. Today is World Book Day! We will be celebrating together on Friday 19th March however in the meantime please do enjoy some World Book Day activities. You can find some online and English today is book themed.
Below are some learning activities for today.
English
Learning Objective/Focus: | Books and Book Week
Main input | We all love reading books, but how do we choose which book to read? We often look at the picture on the cover and read the blurb, or sometimes we read book reviews.
Activities | Choose a book you have enjoyed reading and design a book cover that you think would make people interested in reading the book.
As above AND write some BLURB for the same book. There is a Power Point with some examples of Blurb attached.
Write a book review for the book you have designed a cover and written blurb for. You need to write the title and the Author. Include a brief synopsis of the plot without giving away the ending, mention the characters and the setting. You should also include your reasons for recommending this book to others
Extension Activity Ideas | I would love to put some of your work on the Reading Board in school, so please, choose either your book cover, your blurb or your book review, present it to the best of your ability and send it into school. |
Maths
Learning Objective/Focus: | Round and round the circle!
Main input | I hope you enjoy the following investigation. I have attached some clocks without hands or numbers. For this please note that the 12 has been replaced by 0
Activities | Use a ruler to join all the numbers counting in ones. So, join 0 to 1 then join 1 to 2 and so on until you get back to where you started. Find out the name of the shape you have made. Then start at zero and rule lines counting in twos. Join zero to 2, then two to four etc until you get back to where you started. Do the same counting in threes and fours. Each time go on drawing lines until you get back to the point where you first started. What do you notice?
Do the same as above but try counting in 5’s and 6’s as well.
What happens if you count on in 7’s, 8’s 9’s 10’s and 11’s?
Extension Activity Ideas | Which shapes are the same? Can you think of a reason why? Can you see a connection between the number in which you are counting around the circle and the number of sides in the shape you are making? |
