Good Morning,
I hope you have had a great week. Friday already!
Below are some learning activity ideas for today.
English
Learning Objective/Focus: | To use ‘because’ in my writing.
Main input (explanation) | We use because to give a reason for something. Discuss some examples.
Activities | Look at today’s phoneme and complete the activities on the slide.
Talk about some things that make you special. Why do they make you special? Can you use because to explain?
Think about something that makes you special. Write a sentence about what makes you special and why, using because.
Extension Activity Ideas | Collect all of this week’s work about yourself and make it into a book. |
Maths
Learning Objective/Focus: | To subtract (crossing 10) to find the difference.
Main input (explanation) | To find the difference between two numbers. Subtract the lowest number from the highest number, the answer to this calculation is the difference between the two numbers. For example to find the difference between 25 and 10 subtract 10 from 25. 25-10 =15. The difference is 15.
Activities | Use construction bricks to build 2 towers of different heights. How many bricks are in each tower? Subtract the lowest number from the highest number to find the difference between the numbers of bricks in the towers. (Find out how many more bricks the tallest tower has.) Practice doing this with different size towers.
Use objects for counting, 10 frames and number lines to answer these. There are 12 cars in the car park. 5 of them are blue. How many of them are red? Adam has 13 playing cards. Oliver has 5 playing cards. How many more does Adam have? Zack ate 15 grapes. Hardeep ate 9. How many more did Zack eat?
Lin is 14 years old. Jian’s age is 5 years less than Lin’s. The difference between the oldest (Lin) and youngest (Chen) is 7 years. How old are Jian and Chen. Use cubes, counters or bricks to make towers that show their ages. Choose a number between 10 and 20 and find the difference between that number and your age. Do this 5 times.
Extension Activity Ideas | Look at the numbers below. Which 2 numbers have a difference of 5? 12, 9, 16, 7, 20 Ali and I have 14 sweets in total. I have 6 sweets. How many more does Ali have? |
Foundation Subjects
Subject | PSHE | |
Learning Objective/Focus: | Growing and changing.
Main input (explanation) | Humans go through different stages of growth. As we go through each stage we learn new skills. Encourage your child to think about some of the things they can do now but needed help with when they were a baby.
Activities | Talk about the skills you have learnt as you have grown from a baby. What can you do now that you could not as a baby? What new skills do you think you will learn as you grow?
Draw a picture or write about something you needed help with when you were a baby.
Draw a picture of a skill you have learnt i.e. riding a bike, reading a book or getting yourself dressed. Label your picture.
Extension Activity Ideas | Draw a picture of a skill you would like to learn as you get older. |
I hope you have a great weekend. Take care.
