Learning Activities for Wednesday 24th February 2021.

Hope you enjoyed your day yesterday and managed to get out for some fresh air. Learning activities for today follow:

Learning Objective/Focus: Learn about colons, semi-colons and dashes, and use these in sentences.

Main input:

Read the article ‘Flutag Explanation’ and then watch

Explain Flutag to somebody else, so that they are clear about what it involves and know three facts about it. Highlight and name all the punctuation that you can find in the Flutag Explanation.

Use the PowerPoint or the Revision Card to remind yourself about using colons, semi-colons and dashes to link clauses. Complete either Linking Clauses 1 or Linking Clauses 2. (Version 2 is more challenging).

Look at the design for a Giant Flying Techno Badger. Write some sentences about this – include clauses separated with semi-colons, colons and dashes. Maybe use some of the Example Sentences.

Find out more about Flutag. Which is your favourite machine? Look again at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kmEUuai-tE

Design a Flutag Flying machine of your own.

Learning Objective/Focus: Two-step equations.

Main input: See PowerPoint.

Fluency activity.

Reasoning activity.

Problem Solving activity.

The length of a rectangle is 2𝑥 + 3. The width of the same rectangle is 𝑥 – 2. The perimeter is 17 cm. Find the area of the rectangle.

Learning Objective/Focus: STEM activities: Use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs; work with variables and various forms of input and output.

Main input: Stop motion animation is a film making technique that makes inanimate objects appear to move on their own. Think Wallace and Gromit.

To make it work, you place an object in front of a camera and snap a photo. You then move the object a tiny bit and snap another photo. Repeat this process twenty to ten thousand times, play back the sequence in rapid progression, and the object appears to move fluidly across the screen.

What you will need: Collection of objects to animate. Smart phone, touchpad, or iPad. Tripod or stand to hold your device steady. Stop Motion Animation App. You should be able to use the FREE version of Stop Motion Studio by Cateater for iOS.

Set up a backdrop. This could be a wall or piece of foam core. Gather toys to include in your animation. Include only 2 toys to begin with. Set up your touch pad or smart phone on a stand or tripod, across from the foam core. Start the Stop Motion Animation App and make your movie!

Add some elaborate lighting and more characters.

Story board your animation before filming.

Access ‘How to make things fly in Stop Motion Animation’, using PhotoShop: YouTube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mxHu7JO2yA Watch the video to learn how to make things fly and if you have relevant software at home give it a try.

Hope you have a good day and enjoy making your animations. Remember to send in any completed work so we can share with everyone.
