Learning Objective/Focus: | To move in different ways.
Main input (explanation) | In the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack was meant to take the cow to the market to sell. Today we are going to the market and swapping the cow for magic beans.
Activities | Warm up – play Simon says. Pretend to go to the market to get some food. Try moving in different ways, and using different types of steps. What can you see at the market? Don’t forget to look high and low!
Collect the shopping! Use some different objects as items for sale at the market and a box or bucket for your shopping basket. Spread the objects around as if they are on different market stalls. Run to collect each item for your basket. (only collect 1 item at a time) How many items can you collect in 1 minute? How quickly can you collect all the items? Can you put the items back in the correct places as quickly as you collected them? If you have siblings why not see who can collect the items the quickest.
Ask an adult to play the beans game. Can you explain how to play the game? Someone calls out different types of beans and the child shows a pose or action for that bean. Beans could be jumping, running, string, broad, magic, Mexican, coffee, baked, French or jelly.
Extension Activity Ideas | Create your own bean moves. |
Have fun!
