Good morning Class 1,
I hope you had a great half term.
Below are some learning activity ideas for today. Remember you can choose from the selection and we do not expect you to do them all.
English
Learning Objective/Focus: | To find information about myself.
Main input (explanation) | This week I would like you to make an autobiography. This is a book about you.
Activities MUST | Look at today’s phoneme and complete the activities on the slide.
SHOULD | Look at some pictures of when you were a baby. Talk about when you were born, where were you born? Where did you live? Who were your first visitors? What were your first words? When did you take your first steps?
COULD | Try writing some sentences using the information you have found out about yourself.
Extension Activity Ideas | Look at a picture of yourself as a baby and write a description of what you looked like. |
Maths
Learning Objective/Focus: | To add by making 10 first. (bridging 10)
Main input (explanation) | Bridging 10 is a method of adding two numbers whose total is greater than 10. Start by making the first number total 10 then add the remainder. For example if you were adding 9 + 4, make the 9 total ten ( by taking 1 from the second number) then add the remainder. Use the PowerPoint attached to help you.
Activities MUST | Practice making 10. Knowing number bonds to 10 will help you to add by making 10. Use building bricks to make towers to show the different ways of making 10. Use a dice to make number bonds to 10. Roll one dice, what do you need to add to the number you rolled to make 10? Or you could try playing number bond bingo, snap or pairs.
SHOULD | Solve these by making 10 and adding the remainder. 9 + 5 = 7 + 6 = 8 + 7 = 6 + 5 =
COULD | Use a number line to practice adding by making 10. Try this first 7+5. Start by finding 7 on the number line. Make 3 jumps to get to 10. 7+ 3=10. Then make the remaining 2 jumps to get to 12. 10+2 =12 so 7+5=12 Now try these: 8+4 6+7 9+8 5+9
Extension Activity Ideas | Annie is calculating 8+6. How should she partition the 6? 5 and 1, 4 and 2 or 3 and 3 ? Explain why. |
Foundation Subjects
Subject | History | |
Learning Objective/Focus: | To know about my family history.
Main input (explanation) | Talk to your child about their family.
Activities MUST | Talk about members of your family. Do you have brothers or sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents or even great grandparents?
SHOULD | Draw a picture of some of your family members.
COULD | Use pictures to create a family tree. Label who they are.
Extension Activity Ideas | Add some information to your family tree about members of your family. i.e. where they live or what job they do. |
Wishing you a great day. Take care.
