Below are some learning activity ideas for today.

English

Learning Objective/Focus:Comparisons – Book or Film?  
Main inputThink about a book you have read that has also been made into a film. Eg. Fantastic Mr. Fox, Charlotte’s Web, or Paddington. Which is best- the book or film? Come up with arguments for both.
Activities

MUST
Jot down 3 ways a book is better than a film and also 3 ways a film could be better than a book.
SHOULDMake a list of films about books that you have really enjoyed. Write a short review of one of them .
COULDFind one of your books that would make a good film- write why it would be suitable and who would enjoy watching it. Think about the setting, who would star in it? Would you play a part in the film?
Extension Activity IdeasDesign a poster advertising your new film.

Maths

Learning Objective/Focus:Revision of Roman numerals
Main inputRecap what they are; I=1, V=5, X=10, L=50, C=100, D=500, M=1,000
List 5x and 10x tables in Roman numerals. Talk about how to set them out to make sure the times symbol does not look like the X for 10.
Activities

MUST
Write some calculations in Roman numerals for others to try; E.g. C+V+X= ?
Write out 10 different calculations but remember you need to know the answers too!
SHOULDCreate some number sentences in Roman numerals for others to try; E.g. C+V+X= ?
Include a mixture of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
COULDExperiment with looking at the answers to a particular times table in Roman numerals.
Which one have I started? VI, XII, XVIII, keep the pattern going.
Extension Activity IdeasResearch how the Romans chose these letters to represent their numbers.

Main inputRecite the Lord’s Prayer and identify the words you find tricky- E.g. Hallowed, thy, temptation,
Activities

MUST
Try to modernise the prayer, by converting some of the language into modern day terms, to aid understanding its meaning.
SHOULDRe-write it so it makes sense to you.
COULDIllustrate your version to support younger children understanding the Lord’s Prayer.
We would love to display these in the school hall.
Extension Activity IdeasWrite your own prayer- it could be about the environment, thanking God for his love ….. or any subject personal to you.
